Whitewall loves Billy

Everyone loves Billy Connolly. Even your granny who thinks “he’s too blue” loves the story of the Jobby Weecha.

It is true to say that Glaswegians hold Billy in even higher reverence than most, not just because Glasgow is his home town but because his history intertwines with so many fundamental parts of the city.

2017 saw three huge murals created in honour of the Big Yin’s 75th birthday and we have all walked past them at times and smiled, proud to also call Glasgow home.

In 2019 we decided that we would pay our own small tribute to Billy by gifting our clients and friends his book – Tall Tales and Wee Stories – for Christmas. Along with the book we sent moleskin notebooks debossed with our favourite Billy quote. After some serious discussion, we settled on the immortal life lesson: ”Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn’t try it on.”

In addition, our resident illustrator extraordinaire, Mark McDonald, created a digital illustration to complement the gift. Ultimately the images were not used in the end so we thought we’d give them their place on this page, for all to see.

Thanks for the laughs Billy (and sorry about the purple beard). Oh, and if you want a copy of our digital illustration, give us a shout!
