FAQs

We’ve had some queries, the answers to which we thought would be useful to share.

Can I schedule my Instagram posts via Hootsuite?

Yes, you can schedule posts for Instagram via Hootsuite, but it works differently to FB and Twitter. Instead of automatically posting, Hootsuite will send you a reminder to post at the time you’ve scheduled for. To get this reminder, you’ll need to be logged in to the latest Hootsuite app on your phone/device, and have push notifications turned on.

How do I find my login for Hootsuite?

Each centre has been set up with one login for Hootsuite. This mmay have been set up using a colleague’s email address, so the first step is to check internally. If you’re still unsure, please contact your Account Manager who will be able to confirm the details and advise how to reset your password.

How do I add multiple images on Hootsuite when scheduling Facebook posts?

At the moment, when you upload a post with multiple images, it will create a separate one for each image along – so four images equals four posts with the same copy! This is not ideal, but happily there is a workaround.

  1. Draft the text part of your post as you normally would.
  2. Add your images. Underneath the images, there’s a dropdown menu that says ‘Timeline Photos’.
  3. Select the dropdown menu and choose ‘create new album’. Give this album a relevant name as it will be visible to your audience. When you’ve finished, click ‘create album’.
  4. Before you schedule, be sure to check that the correct album is selected. Schedule your post and/or press send.
I would like to share content from a retailer Facebook page. How do I do this?

Facebook disabled their search API in 2015. As a result, it is no longer possible to search for retailer pages directly. The only way a post can be shared is to share it from a pre-existing stream.

There are two ways that you can add a retailer to a stream.

ADDING A STREAM TO SHARE A RETAILER POST

You could add a stream for pages. This would allow you to see the feed of any pages you had liked. The only slight snag in this is that you would need add a stream for each retailer every time you needed to share their post. As Hootsuite have a limit on the number of streams,  you’ll need to delete and readd retailers as required.

To add a retailer stream you’ll need to select ‘pages’ on the add a stream tab.

hs1

Select the Facebook page you want to add from the list. You must have liked the page as your page in order to find the retailer here.

hs2

Once you have the post you would like to share in the correct stream, you’ll need to follow these steps to share it:

hs3

Click ‘Share’ below the post.

Select the profile that will share the post from the drop-down menu.

Optional: Click Say something about this and enter a comment above the shared content.

For Facebook profiles, select the audience for the share (Public, Friends or Only Me) from the second drop-down menu, and then click Share.

Once you’re finished with the stream you can delete it.

ADDING MENTIONS TO YOUR STREAMS

If you’re working with retailers that have local Facebook pages (i.e. Starbucks Glasgow Fort) the easiest way going forward is to ask these retailers to tag your Facebook page.

You can add a stream to Hootsuite which allows you to see all your Facebook mentions. You would simply select your page below and click the @mentions logo in green. Any posts tagging your Facebook page would show up here allowing you to share content easily from one stream.
