Marketing blogs – ten of the best

It’s been a wee while since our last blog post – aside from being really busy across the office it seemed appropriate that site visitors had the chance to luxuriate longer in the majesty of the stock images revealed in the January piece.

We’ve expanded as a team since the turn of the year, and have been lucky enough to appoint three fantastic new Digital Marketing Coordinators – Peter Jahn, Madeleine Schmoll and Claire O’Neill. They each bring valuable and varied skills to Whitewall and we’re excited to welcome them and look forward to having them contribute across our client base. By way of initiation, Peter’s been kind enough to contribute the below post on some of his favourite marketing blogs which, if you’re not already following, ought to be on the go-to list of any self-respecting marketer.

I was originally going to title my list “digital marketing blogs you should follow” because I am a digital marketer by experience/job title. But I ditched the digital part as I, and many smarter people feel there is a huge need for greater convergence between technology and traditional marketing.

So, that’s the reason why this list of my favourite marketing blogs covers a range of disciplines from copywriting to behavioural psychology.

Here are ten blogs (in no particular order) across a range of disciplines that you should be reading to help stay on top of your game.

Drayton Bird

Drayton provides no-nonsense copywriting and direct marketing advice and case studies in an often very funny and straight-talking way. This is essential reading for copywriters and marketers alike.

Bryan Eisenberg

Bryan and Jeffrey Eisenberg have been big names in the online marketing world for many years. Their blog has a strong focus on online customer experience and conversion rate optimisation.

Scott Brinker

Scott bridges blogs about marketing technology and bridges the gap between online and traditional marketing.

Danny Brown

Danny is one of very few people talking sense about social marketing online. A must read for those wanting to avoid the seemingly endlessly regurgitated BS that surrounds social marketing online.

Smart Insights

This is an excellent resource that covers all aspects of online marketing with regular contributions from industry experts.


This should be your first stop shop for the latest news on what’s happening in digital. I strongly urge any professional marketer to subscribe to Econsultancy for access to thousands of invaluable guides, industry stats, templates, tool kits, and training modules.

Rand Fishkin

If you’re a search engine marketer you’ll know Rand. An expert in search optimisation, his website is essential reading for SEOs of all levels. His company Moz also provides arguably the most useful SEO tool kit available.

Occam’s Razor

Avinash Kaushik, who is a digital marketer with Google amongst other things, writes here. Avinash mostly talks about data and analytics.


Buffer covers social media and content marketing as well as providing some extremely useful templates and tools.

Gregory Ciotti and

Gregory runs two blogs. In the eponymous first one he writes about content marketing and content production with principles firmly rooted in behavioural psychology. In Sparring Mind, Gregory provides practical solutions for everyday life problems, discusses human behaviour, and offers tips for increasing your creativity and happiness.
